ASPiRE To Feature AMS Pictures Documentaries
Wednesday, June 27, saw the debut of ASPiRE, a new television network created by Magic Johnson. The new network will offer “a unique mix of original and groundbreaking programming” and aims to highlight and celebrate positive portrayals of African-American lifestyles, accomplishments and talent.
Wednesday nights on the network will feature documentaries that chronicle the real-life events, people and places that helped to shape the course of African-American history and culture. AMS Pictures is delighted to announce that a number of our Black History Uncovered documentaries, including Rising from the Rails: The Story of the Pullman Porter, have been chosen to air as a part of ASPiRE’s “Groundbreaking Documentaries.”
AMS Pictures’ Original Programming department was founded on the production of documentaries. “I had read a book about the Pullman Porters and thought it would make a great doc,” says AMS Pictures CEO Andy Streitfeld. “Brad Osborne and his team did a fantastic job bringing that story to life. Since then we have produced seven other docs focused on African American history – each one explores a chapter in the past. This series, Black History Uncovered, has sold thousands of DVDs, but that cannot compare to the exposure these stories will receive from being featured on a cable television network. We got into this business to tell stories – now millions of people will be entertained and educated by these documentaries.”
In addition to Groundbreaking Documentaries, ASPiRE will also feature the following programming blocks: Groundbreaking Movies, Groundbreaking Comedies, Groundbreaking Music and Performance Specials and “ABFF Independent,” a two-hour original show presenting the best shorts and feature films from emerging African-American writers, producers and directors, selected from the American Black Film Festival (ABFF).
