Hungry for More

I have to admit – I’m a secret fan of many of the most wildly popular, guilty pleasure-inducing TV shows and novels. You name it: Real Housewives, Pretty Little Liars, TwilightI’ve seen them all.

So you can imagine how thrilled I was when The Hunger Games made it to the big screen. I’m even more thrilled to report this movie – along with the books before it – isn’t a guilty pleasure at all, but one that can be enjoyed shame-free!

Unlike so many book-to-movie adaptations, Director Gary Ross did the book justice and didn’t add any unnecessary frills. He made critics happy, viewers happy, and – with $248.5 million at the box office so far – the suits-in-charge happy.

Aside from the movie’s high quality, why has this franchise been so successful? For one, it relates to a much broader audience than its predecessors. It’s thought-provoking, exciting, politically hot and smart. Not to mention, it has a great actress for the character of Katniss in Jennifer Lawrence, and Woody Harrelson knocks it out of the park. With those qualities, every desirable demographic has been reached…explaining why this film is breaking records left and right.

I’ll be spending the rest of my day trying to figure out how to translate that success to reality television. May the odds be ever in my favor!
