AMS Doc Premieres to Uruguayan Audience
AMS Pictures’ story of survival and heroism premieres to a hometown audience in Montevideo, Uruguay on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at 10 PM. Executive Producer Andy Streitfeld will attend alongside all of the plane crash survivors, including Nando Parrado, whose story is the central focus in I Am Alive.
Parrado was 21-year old rugby player flying to a game in Chile when the plane carrying his team and his mother and sister crashed into a 14,000 foot peak in the Andes mountains. After suffering head trauma, below freezing temperatures, and a complete lack of food, Parrado and his teammates were forced to eat the dead to survive. After suffering these extreme conditions for more than 60 days, Parrado accompanied by his friend and teammate, Roberto Canessa, spent ten days trekking out of the mountains searching for rescue.
“During production, I had the privilege of interviewing a number of the survivors of the Andes plane crash, as well as their families and friends. It was one of the most meaningful and significant experiences of my life,” said Andy Streitfeld, Executive Producer. “Because of that, I’ve come to know and love Uruguay, and it is truly a great honor to share the documentary with a hometown audience.”
The Old Christians Club, the same rugby team that the plane crash survivors and victims belonged to, is hosting the Uruguayan premiere, which will be held at the Montevideo Movie Center, the largest theater in Montevideo. After going on sale, tickets to the screening sold out in less than three days. The proceeds will benefit Peti Mutio, a member of the original rugby team who recently suffered a heart attack and accrued medical expenses for the hospitalization.
“Truth and accuracy were always a priority for me while making this documentary. We wanted to stay true to the experience of the survivors and honor the memories of the dead,” said Brad Osborne, who produced and directed the film. “I’m pleased to finally share the film with a Uruguayan audience and so happy that we can give back to the survivors and their friends and families.”
I Am Alive was first broadcast on History Channel on Wednesday, October 20, 2010. The film is available for purchase at http://shop.history.com/
