“Natural Companions” Plays with the Big Dogs

In production, there’s a saying about never working with children or animals. But, the “working with animals” part seems have worked out pretty well for us at AMS Pictures, a Texas-based video production company. Our show Natural Companions was recently nominated as a finalist for the CableFAX Awards in the Best Animal/Nature Show or Series category.

Produced by AMS Pictures for Veria Network, Natural Companions is going up against a behemoth and running with the big dogs, literally. Discovery Channel’s Whale Wars and the Military Channel’s No Dog Left Behind are the other two finalists.

Natural Companions, airing weekly on Veria TV, is an informative and entertaining look at how we can enrich the mental, physical and emotional lives of our animal companions through a natural approach to pet wellness. Hosted by Amy Rosenthal with Jeff Plunk, each episode features heartwarming stories about pets who have experienced remarkable recovery from disease, injury, and neglect through holistic practices and loving care. It also explores the lasting bonds between humans and their animal companions.

Maybe it’s our love of animals that gives Natural Companions its heart. Video production company AMS Pictures gained inspiration from our resident fanatical animal lover, senior account representative Eileen Yedwab. And perhaps it was the years living in Africa that made Senior Producer/Director Tom Rubeck so well suited to lead the Natural Companions production team.

Almost everyone at AMS Pictures provided a contribution to Natural Companions, whether it was being on the crew or lending a “prop” pet, a location, or a lead for a great story. As writer, I enjoyed the challenge of writing scripts on topics as diverse as homeopathic veterinary medicine, veterinary orthopedic manipulation, and laser therapy.

The Cable FAX Awards will be held in New York City on October 4. Keep your fingers and paws crossed that Natural Companions wins!
